Modern architecture or modernist architecture is a term applied to a group of styles of architecture which emerged in the first half of the 20th century and became dominant after World War II. It was based upon new technologies of construction, particularly the use of glass, steel, and reinforced concrete; and upon a rejection of the traditional neoclassical architecture and Beaux-Arts styles that were popular in the 19th century.
Modern architecture continued to be the dominant architectural style for institutional and corporate buildings into the 1980s, when it was challenged by postmodernism, and then by “neo-modernism” and other schools which gradually supplanted it. Modern architecture emerged at the end of the 19th century from revolutions in technology, engineering, and building materials, and from a desire to break away from historical architectural styles and to invent something that was purely functional and new.
When houses became more than simply a dwelling or shelter from the elements, stylization, fashion, architecture, kinds of material and contemporary techniques of construction started to be utilized to construct houses to fulfill individual needs of people who wished to reside inside them. For instance, if a home is built in a hot and humid city, an architect will probably try to reduce the number of windows in the home to steer clear of the wasted energy caused by air conditioning.
It would be best to buy such a home, renovate, and customize it based on the taste of the home owner. Movie houses, prisons, and a few churches were a number of the buildings that used this type of style in this time.
